“Pima Heart is my family,” shares Delma Catalan, a team member who has been with the company long enough that it really does feel that way.
Delma joined Pima Heart and Vascular in 1995 as part of an employment program that supported high school students to learn on-site job skills. She was responsible for various projects including filing, billing, and record-keeping.
That opportunity landed Delma a career that now spans over 26 years with the practice.
“It feels like I grew up here,” she shares.
When she joined the practice, there were only five physicians. Pima Heart and Vascular now has a footprint of 30 locations throughout Southern Arizona and has more than 420 staff.
Delma has held multiple roles throughout her tenure. From Medical records to billing to front office lead, she now works as the Lead at the Centralized Scheduling Office where she is often looked to as the expert and answer finder for her colleagues.
Delma takes pride in supporting her team.
“I love seeing the people that I have worked with or trained expand their career. I see them develop their skills, talents, and confidence and I know that I had a part in that journey for them,” she says.
Outside of the mutual support from her colleagues, another aspect of her career that Delma loves is the commitment to patient care. She truly feels that physicians and staff put patients first.
“I myself am a patient here and this is where I send my family.”
Delma shares that she recently needed vascular care after the discovery of a clot in her leg that required a thrombectomy. Her experience as a patient has only strengthened the trust she has in Pima Heart & Vascular.
Fun fact: If Delma were to start a new career tomorrow, she’d want to be a world-traveling food critic.
