Corie began her career as a medical assistant but soon realized she liked the paper part of the medical field. “I enjoyed reading charts, looking up diagnosis codes, trying to figure out CPT codes for office procedures,” states Corie, “so I soon found myself working for a billing company called Associated Billing Services.”
In 2005, Corie earned her certification as a Certified Professional Coder. She recalls, “I found that Cardiology was the hardest and my worst subject. I also swore to myself and others, that I would never be able to code for cardiology as it was not my best subject. Now I cannot imagine coding anything else but cardiology. LOL.” Corie joined Pima Heart & Vascular in 2007 and has been an invaluable part of the team ever since.
How would you describe your time at Pima Heart & Vascular?
“I have enjoyed working at Pima Heart & Vascular. I work with an amazing team of coders daily, a strong auth department and a helpful eligibility team. Pima Heart & Vascular has gone through a lot of changes over the years, and I feel we strive to be better each year for our patients and for the employees.”
If you could choose any other career, what would you do?
“To be honest, I have never really thought about it much. I cannot image me doing anything else. The only other job that I had when I was younger that I truly loved was working in Hermosa Beach California when I was 15 at a Flower shop. I worked there for about 2 years and they taught me how to make beautiful exotic flower arrangement, which was just amazing. So if I could open up a flower shop and work with flowers all day, while listening to the sound of the ocean, that would be a great job!”
